The Galleria Ice Skating Center's Steals

This blog post will cover the cost difference in the normal Galleria Ice Skating ticket and the discounted ticket offered by the Comet Center to students as well as the overall experience of visiting the Galleria Ice Skating Center.

Cost

Visiting the Galleria’s Ice Skating Center normally costs $10.00 (n.d., galleriaiceskatingcenter.com), but buying a ticket from the Comet Center gives a student discount that reduces the price to $7.50 (UTD Office of Student Affairs, n.d.), including skates. The Galleria’s Ice Skating Center also charges $3.00 for skates (n.d., galleriaiceskatingcenter.com), bringing the total of an undiscounted visit to $12.00.

The skating rink is located 11.5 miles away from campus, taking around 15 minutes to reach; the Galleria Ice Skating Center is also accessible by bus, though the travel time increases to 1 hour and 20 minutes (Google, 2013).

Experience

The Galleria’s Ice Skating Center is open during varying times during the week and weekend, with the earliest entry at 10AM, and the latest availability to stay at 11PM. (n.d., galleriaiceskatingcenter.com). The rink is noticeably emptier during normal school and work days, though even with kids, parents, and other people on the rink, plenty of space remains. The Galleria’s Ice Skating Center holds lessons throughout times of the day, which take up the middle of the rink and add more people to work around. The rink is usually emptiest after 10PM, an hour before close.

Though the Galleria’s Ice Skating Center promotes an air of Winter, the temperature inside of the rink is warm, made more so by the activity of skaters. When there aren’t lessons, the middle of the ice is a safe place to get away from shakier skaters. The rink keeps people skating in the same direction, and once off the wall, most skaters maintain a steady pace.

The Galleria’s Ice Skating Center hosts different decorations depending on the week. On the weekend of October 12th, Longhorn and Sooners logos were displayed on the ice via light because of the football game. During Winter, a large Christmas tree is placed in the middle of the rink. The Galleria’s Ice Skating Center changes their environment to keep things fresh while providing a laidback activity enjoyable in all seasons.
